  1. Lovely subtle colors. Ernie do you use a pen to get those fine grass lines? I struggle with that and have tried a number of things but am never satisfied with my end result. Those light colored grasses really pop.

    1. Try masking them out ... first. I used liquid graphite on this one, so it can be done. after it's all fixed into place, use white acrylic paint . I tone down the acrylic paint with anything from my left-over paints on the pallet, otherwise the white would be stark. The less white blades of grass I achieved by applying a very light wash of the liquid graphite.... then of course there are the regular pencil work.especially in the rock outlines. I even accentuated the dark areas of the pines that show behind some of the blades of grass by using a regular pencil and filling in some dark areas between the various blades of weeds. Hope that helps you some ... for me it's just result of a developed process...

    2. Need to mention also that the liquid graphite is a graphite product by Derivan and the graphite paint comes in a bottle or tube .... I like using the bottles. And it comes in 5 or 6 shades....

  2. Thanks Ernie for generously sharing. What I find difficult is getting the blades of grass so thin and wispy. I've tried a number of tools but am not yet satisfied with any of them.

  3. Is this available as a print by chance? It's so beautiful, just like all your work... Thanks!
