2 . 25 . 2015     Another variation of the small winter stream that I painted and posted a couple of days ago.... In this painting I made a few changes.   Placed a large white birch as a focal point and also gave the appearance of some additional trees in the tree line.  I liked the meandering stream and kept it, but made it less cluttered looking.

                                  2 . 22 . 2015  Small watercolor 6" x 8" in a 3" off-white mat ...

2 . 21. 2015 ... For those that were in my workshop ..This is the demo that I was working on for you that I never got to finish because I was having so much fun helping you individually.   As you can see it's still not finished.....  Maybe today I'll wrap it up, and then I'll repost the finished product for you ..

I think I liked the individual one-on-one work the best....  I got to paint and to help paint winter scenes, summer scenes, autumn scenes, and I don't know what scenes......but it was fun.

2 . 20 . 2015    This is the small painting that I ended up with from a demo conducted in my studio... cleaned it up just a little bit at the end of the day when I could take a good look at where I was on it..  Started out this painting in the upright position as you can tell by the runs that I left there.  I'm never  too comfortable painting a watercolor from an upright easel, so I transitioned to a flat surface before it got away from me..... it actually turned out better then I was expecting.   But that's what so exciting about watercolor .... sometimes it's the end result that says it all..  You can have it go bad from the very beginning, or you can overwork it in the painting process, or have it surprise you and look pretty good as a final.

The progression of a painting

Finished painting..... made some minor adjustments from where I started.  Decided I wanted something a little brighter, so I glazed washes of Verditer Blue several times over the sky and even pushed it into the pines and yellow aspens.  Lightened up the rocks in the foreground and threw in some dead/dying pines to add a little interest, and put a yellow ochre wash over the aspens.....

Finished painting with 3 1/2" off-white mat

Watercolor 9" x 10 1/2"   I titled this  "Across the creek, thru the meadow, to the woods"

"Out of the bosom of the air, Out of the cloud-folds of her garments shaken;  Over the woodlands brown and bare;  Over the harvest-fields forsaken;  Silent, and soft, and slow descends the snow....."  Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Watercolor .. 8 1/2" x 11" ..  The colors used for this painting was a minimal palette of ultramarine blue, cad orange, graphite grey,  paynes grey, and verditer blue (Holbein) ..... also used a little neutral grey gouache for the small little saplings....

A watercolor painted this past summer, of an area in Southern Idaho  .....  a nice little stretch of mountains east of Preston, Idaho heading over to Bear Lake.
I identify this as a watercolor and much of it is, but the darker pine trees in the middle ground was painted using the Derivan liquid pencil.  So, to be completely accurate it would be a watercolor and graphite painting.

                 A small graphite and watercolor 7" x 7 1/2" in a 3" off-white mat......"Squash"

In the autumn time my wife and I go to the local roadside markets in Brigham City to buy vegetables. During those trips, she likes to buy various types of squash that's worthy of laying out on a rack to dry.... consequently, I have on occasion painted these things because they each one have their own  interesting and different texture or color   ... this is a watercolor of one of those squash that we picked up...
