3 . 31 . 2015    ... Wanted to work up a nice little sepia toned graphite sketch using Derivan liquid graphite and a spattering of a mixture of yellow ochre/raw umber watercolor.  This is the result from this morning in my studio... an 8" x 11" ...had it finished in under an hour minus a little drying time.... pretty quick work time with the Derivan, painting straight from the bottle and putting it to paper.

This is the first of several paintings for this year that will be available in numbered and signed prints.  If you are interested, you may email at eaverdine@gmail.com or refer to my web page.

Titled "East of Lewiston"...  it is of the mountains of southern Idaho.  I used some artistic license on the trees in the middle ground... by making them appear to be groups of aspens against the mountain range...

This painting is titled "High Mountain Autumn" ..  Another painting that is available as a signed print.  Again, if interested, email me at eaverdine@gmail.com  or use my web page.

3 . 20 . 2015  ... A watercolor from this morning.  Sometimes (probably more like often), I get up in the very early morning hours and go into my studio and just paint....  Something I enjoy doing.  Here is a watercolor where I put down a heavy background color and then scrubbed it out to tone the paper ... let it dry and then painted the forest edge into it..  I was initially planning on adding some interest to the right side of the painting as you can see from the pencil lines, but I'm not for sure I want to do that... I think I like it the way it is.  I'm wondering if adding something to the right side might take away from the interest of the stand of trees on the left side of the painting.  I even left some of the pencil lines on the right side to give a slight hint of trees.  Sometimes a few loose marks can change the feeling of a painting.

My wife and I own a historical home in Logan Utah.  Certainly not one of the oldest home in our town but it was build in 1902 and there is some uniqueness in it. We really enjoy living in it as 2 artists doing our own thing with hardly a care in the world except to feed our creative spirits.  Several years ago it was on the historical home tour and one of the people visiting on tour took some pictures and put them on her blog  ....these are those pictures.   Many are of my wife's studio also, and the work she does.  She's a textile artist that does all sorts of really unique and interesting things ... Primarily rug hooking and punch needle; but also knitting, crocheting, needle work, etc, etc, etc,.... I think she can do just about anything with a piece of cloth.  We have 3 rooms upstairs that have been converted into studios that we work from....
During that history tour of our home, the historical society said we had over 500 people thru the front doors on that day.... I know we had a very interesting and fun day meeting so many different people....

More reworked sketches out of one of my sketchbooks.... liquid graphite, pastel, and watercolor....  These are more formal sketches in which I pay a little bit more attention to technique then what I would do for my quick-note sketches used to prep for a painting.

                                             3 . 1 . 2015   ... From a sketch to a watercolor

3 . 1 . 2015 ... Reworked a few of my rough sketches from a sketch book into a more finished piece of work.   Thought I might try the liquid graphite and watercolor/pastel to redo some of the sketches I have.  Taped off 300# arches rough paper into the desired dimensions to get a nice cleaned-up look...  The sketches here were posted earlier in this blog.
