9 . 24 . 2014: Autumn colors along a distant mountain range of Idaho....
"I saw old Autumn in the misty morn, Stand shadowless like silence, listening. To silence, for no lonely bird would sing, Into his hollow ear from woods forlorn, Nor lowly hedge nor solitary thorn; - Shaking his languid locks all dewy bright, With tangled gossamer that fell by night, Pearling his coronet of golden corn". Thomas Hood (1798 -1845)

"Go, sit upon the lofty hill, And turn your eyes around, Where waving woods and waters wild do hymn an autumn sound. The summer sun is faint on them - The summer flowers depart - Sit still - as all transformed to stone, except your musing heart......." Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1833)

Plein Aire Watercolor Sketch........looking east into Logan Canyon. Usually don't leave or add this much pencil work in the sky area or horizon, but I thought I'd just try it that way on this one....
..... The blue crest of the distant mountain tops, The green crest of the hill on which I sit; And it is summer, glorious, deep-toned summer, the very crown of nature's changing year, When all surging life is at it's full. To me alone it is a time of pause, ..... "Summer" by Amy Lowell
